HOW LONG HAS THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB BEEN AROUND?
The Port Washington Yacht Club, "The Family Club on Manhasset Bay," has a 95-year heritage as a place where families relax to meet friends, pursue the fine art of sailing, and other water sports, play tennis or just relax by the pool.
MUST I LIVE IN PORT WASHINGTON TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB?
No. Approximately 40% of PWYC members live in Port Washington/Sands Point, 40% in Manhasset/Plandome, the remaining 20% in neighboring towns.
MUST I OWN A BOAT TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB?
No. About half of PWYC members own boats. Many "non-boat-owner" families enjoy and learn about boating by utilizing the club's fleet of Ideal 18's, and by participating in the Adult and Junior Sailing programs. Other families play tennis, relax by the pool, and socialize.
WHAT ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN ARE OFFERED BY THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB?
The PWYC offers an extensive array of activities for children including the Guppy, Junior Yacht Club, Junior Sailing and Junior Tennis programs.
The Guppy Program is for children ages 4-7. It meets Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday afternoons, and features sailing readiness, swimming and tennis, along with crafts and sports sessions.
The Junior Yacht Club, for children ages 8 to 12, is a full day, five day-a-week, eight-week program. In the JYC, children receive sailing and tennis instruction and they participate in swim team and other sports.
The Junior Sailing Program is an eight-week, half-day program. Many of our junior sailors compete in Junior Sailing Association regattas at yacht clubs on Long Island Sound including clubs on the North Shore of Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut.
Our swim team competes in the North Shore Swim League, a group comprised of 6 swim teams from neighboring clubs, including Manhasset Bay and Sea Cliff Yacht Clubs.
WHAT ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS ARE OFFERED BY THE PWYC?
Adult members enjoy a variety of sports, social activities, and dining year around. Some of the adult activities that the Club offers include boating, swimming, tennis, trapshooting, platform tennis, and bridge.
Included among the Club's social activities are specialty culinary evenings, clambakes and barbecues, our annual "Waterfront Party," "Family Fun Day," and the Christmas Sing-along.
The dining room operates 5 days per week with formal dining in the Dining Room and casual dining in the Grill. During the summer months, luncheon service is available at our outdoor patio, and at the Snack Bar adjacent to the pool. Menu items vary by location, but the Club's overall offerings range from burgers to gourmet entrees.

DOES THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB MAINTAIN RECIPROCAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER CLUBS IN THE AREA?
Yes. Members of the Port Washington Yacht Club have the opportunity to dine at many clubs in the area, as well as at yacht clubs up and down Long Island Sound. Boaters frequently take advantage of these reciprocal relationships while cruising. Many clubs offer mooring, dining and other helpful amenities. Simply call ahead by telephone or ship-to-shore radio to let them know you are coming. Charges at the reciprocating clubs appear on your PWYC account.
CAN I USE THE CLUBHOUSE FOR A PRIVATE PARTY?
Yes. Many members use the clubhouse for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations and other important occasions. Our chef can customize a menu for your special occasion.
DOES THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB EVER CLOSE?
With the exception of a two-week period during the month of February, the clubhouse is open year-around Wednesday through Sunday. The Clubhouse is open on holidays with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day. All outdoor activities are available (in their respective season) seven days a week.
HOW DO YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB?
Membership in the PWYC usually begins with the introduction of the family seeking membership to the Membership Committee by two current members. If you have lived in the Port Washington - Manhasset community for a while, chances are you know members of the PWYC. If you do not know a member, we can arrange for you to be introduced to the Club.
IS THERE A "BEST TIME" TO BEGIN THE MEMBERSHIP PROCESS?
Membership can begin at any time of the year. Some families aim to be "in the club" by Memorial Day Weekend, which is the official beginning of the summer season. That's when the pool opens, we have our first clambake, and other summer programs get underway. Because the membership process takes from 6 to 8 weeks, to become a member by Memorial Day Weekend, we strongly recommend that the membership process be initiated by mid-March/April at the latest.
WHAT IS THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE PORT WASHINGTON YACHT CLUB?
The annual cost for an active family membership includes annual dues and, at the member's choice, fees associated with each of the Club's activity offerings -- boating, swimming, tennis, platform tennis, trapshooting, and children's programs. Our fees and dues are very competitive in comparison to other private clubs of our caliber. A one-time initiation fee is payable after the first full year of membership. Actual costs will be provided to prospective members after they have visited the Club and inquired about membership.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT MEMBERSHIP, CALL THE PWYC, TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY,
