Yachting

There are many opportunities for Port Washington Yacht Club members to enjoy yachting activities.

Our well-maintained facilities allow for the mooring of larger yachts with launch service, in season. There is also ample storage space for smaller boats in the dry dock area and on floats specifically designed for smaller craft.

The club's fleet is about evenly distributed between sail and power, with the sailors participating actively in one-design racing, PHRF and IRC day racing on the bay and longer distance racing in Long Island Sound and on the waters surrounding New York City. Every Thursday evening and on weekend days in season there is racing on the bay. All members are invited to participate by racing their own boat or lending a hand as a crew member. These events are exciting and a good way to learn or improve sailing ability. During the winter, some of our members participate in the "frostbite" racing series on the bay. Our junior sailing program is conducted in Feva, 420, Laser, Hobie, J-105 and Optimist Class boats and has produced many trophy winners in recent years. Some of our juniors even compete internationally.
